Beach Volleyball
Welcome to 2025 NorthShore Beach Volleyball!
REGISTER HERE FOR 2025 Beach VOLLEYBALL!
We are pleased to once again offer our beach volleyball program on the beach courts in Traverse City! Last year we went to four days of practices (Monday – Thursday), added a Nationals program, and hosted four tournaments (two more than previous years)! It was very successful and we will continue with this model for the 2025 season.
AVP Tournaments
As we continue on our mission to provide access to beach volleyball for as many athletes as possible, we also have a mission to create opportunities for our athletes who are looking to compete at the highest levels. Athletes who wish to play at East Coast, West Coast, or National Championship must earn bids at qualifying tournaments. All of our tournaments will be AVP sanctioned tournaments so participants can earn bids. For those tournaments to be sanctioned all the athletes participating must have an AVP Silver membership. This membership is only required if you are participating in an AVP tournament.
SEASON SCHEDULE
Our season starts on Thursday, June 12th and finishes on Thursday, August 14th. (High school indoor volleyball starts Monday, August 11, but they are welcome to attend practices if they wish.)
Please see our full practice and Tournament Schedule here! (NOTE: This document is still in the works and some dates may change!)
PROGRAM COSTS
We are a flexible program and want to provide beach volleyball to as many athletes as possible. Attending 2 practices a week is what we recommend, however, athletes can attend more, or less. They can also make up missed practices by attending other practice days. We will also have a drop-in registration for those who can only do a limited number of practices.
- Recommended: Two practices a week, or 9-17 practices. $325 ($331 for Venmo).
Two or more family members: $265 each ($271 for Venmo) - One practice a week, or 6-8 practices: $225 ($231 for Venmo)
- Unlimited practices (18+ practices): $450 ($456 for Venmo)
- Drop-in practice is $25 per practice (max of 5 practices).
- Beach National Program: $120 additional fee. (This is by invite only).
Payment is due June 17th. Payment by Venmo is the easiest: ShoreVB (please add the suggested service fee above). You can also pay by check/cash.

Ages / Genders
Program are open to all genders. Grades 4th – 12th (plus recently graduated athletes). Under 3rd grade by director approval.
Partners
One of our main questions is “do they need a partner?” The answer is no! We match up players in practice when partners are needed. However, athletes often enjoy having a dedicated partner,
We HIGHLY encourage athletes to play with multiple partners throughout the season, especially at tournaments. Finding the right partners is an important journey.
Uniforms
Matching outfits are totally cool, but not necessary. We are required to wear Adidas clothing for tournament play. We will have apparel available to purchase the first weeks of the season.
One Coach, Many Teams
During beach tournaments, beach teams consist of only two players, and coaching is not allowed during game play, only during time outs and switching of courts (so about 3 minutes of coaching per an hour match). Having one coach for each two-player team would be very expensive. Additionally, all tournaments are optional to players, so having one coach for many teams will keep costs low, and follow AAU guidelines, while also allowing for the players to just play volleyball.
Tryouts/Teams
There are no tryouts for beach volleyball. We often have a waitlist, and it is first come first serve for spaces. In the past, we have made room for all athletes, but each year have more athletes and the same amount of beach space (this year we may get 2 more courts!). It is a great opportunity for athletes of all skill levels (and we mix groups so that they are sometimes with stronger and sometimes with weaker skilled athletes).
Courts
We will be playing on the Traverse City beach courts (West Bay).
Why Beach Volleyball
Most importantly, it is a ton of fun! It trains players to read the ball, arguably the most important skill in volleyball. It is a great work out, and you get to be on the beach!
