Expansion and Growth! This year we are expanding opportunities for athletes to practice by increasing the amount of available practice days. Additionally, we are expanding the opportunities for our advanced athletes to train harder and ultimately participate in the AVP Beach Nationals!
Available Practice Days We will now be offering two practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Athletes can choose two of those days to practice. For NEW athletes that are not in high school, we recommend Mondays and Wednesdays. We recommend Monday / Wednesday, or Tuesday / Thursday as good combinations to get unique practices plans. Other combinations are possible, but not optimal.
AVP Tournaments This year we will be running all of our tournaments through AVP. The tournaments will look and feel the same as always, but ALL athletes can earn points and bids to play in AVP National Tournaments! Tournament participation is optional!
Beach Nationals Program (AVP) Our practices for the majority of athletes will be exactly the same. However, for athletes looking to compete at a high level we are offering the Beach Nationals Program. By participating in the AVP National Tournament athletes gain the opportunity to pursue beach volleyball in college. To participate in this program, athletes must apply and be accepted.
Application for the Beach National Program – coming soon
All athletes regardless of programming should sign up for two days of practices.

Partners
One of our main questions is “do they need a partner?” The answer is no! We match up players in practice when partners are needed. However, athletes often enjoy having a dedicated partner,
We HIGHLY encourage athletes to play with multiple partners throughout the season, especially at tournaments. Finding the right partners is an important journey.
Uniforms
Matching outfits are totally cool, but not necessary. We are required to wear Adidas clothing for tournament play. We will have apparel available to purchase the first weeks of the season.
One Coach, Many Teams
During beach tournaments, beach teams consist of only two players, and coaching is not allowed during game play, only during time outs and switching of courts (so about 3 minutes of coaching per an hour match). Having one coach for each two-player team would be very expensive. Additionally, all tournaments are optional to players, so having one coach for many teams will keep costs low, and follow AAU guidelines, while also allowing for the players to just play volleyball.
Tryouts/Teams
There are no tryouts for beach volleyball. We often have a waitlist, and it is first come first serve for spaces. In the past, we have made room for all athletes, but each year have more athletes and the same amount of beach space (this year we may get 2 more courts!). It is a great opportunity for athletes of all skill levels (and we mix groups so that they are sometimes with stronger and sometimes with weaker skilled athletes).
Courts
We will be playing on the Traverse City beach courts (West Bay).
Why Beach Volleyball
Most importantly, it is a ton of fun! It trains players to read the ball, arguably the most important skill in volleyball. It is a great work out, and you get to be on the beach!
